Join me in Scripture, as we dive into God’s Word, reminding and filling us with a renewed motivation and strength for homemaking when burned out.
Every day we are faced with tasks as women, moms, wives, and children of God to serve others and keep our homes going. This can become overwhelming, stressful, and even daunting. What if there was a way to find joy, love, and passion for homemaking, even when you feel burned out?
Scripture Guidance for Homemaking When Burned Out
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.
Galatians 6:9-10
So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
Jeremiah 31:25
I will satisfy the weary,
and all who are faint I will replenish.
Psalm 37:7
Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
over those who carry out evil devices.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
2 Thessalonians 3:13
Brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Overcoming Your “Breaking Point”
1. Pause
When you get to the point of overwhelm, mental breakdown, your “breaking point” stop. Stop whatever you are doing. Physically and mentally pause all the tasks you are doing, and just close your eyes. If you can, go to a space that you can sit, and are alone. As long as your children are safe, step away from them. It is okay that they cry for a few minutes.
During the “pause” time, take deep breathes, preferably box breathing (breathe in for 3 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, breathe out for 3 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, repeat), and just be. Take at least 60 seconds to do nothing but focusing on your breathing and calming your heart rate.
2. Pray
Take a moment to examine the Bible verses above. What verse stands out to you? Pray this / these verse(s). God will replenish the strength of those who are weary, of those who are tired and at the end of their rope. When you are at this point, pray.
Lord, give me the strength I need to continue. Bestow upon me the energy I need to do Your will, to serve others, and finish my tasks at hand. Lord, carry me as I am weak. Help me O Lord.
3. Proceed
It is important to acknowledge that just because you have calmed your heart rate and prayed, doesn’t mean the “chaos” surrounding you, causing you stress is any different. You will still have to “put out the fire” that you were before. The task(s) you paused from, are still there waiting for you. They won’t magically change or get done, but what you have now is the strength of the Lord to guide and get you through it. When you ask God for help, He will help you. It doesn’t mean it is magically easy, stress-free, or quick, but it will get done with energy you didn’t have before, and strength keeping you going.

Cheese and Hot Pepper Focaccia Bread
Soft focaccia bread, filled with Hungarian hot wax pepper, pressed in and topped with crisp cheddar cheese. A delicious bread for dipping and snacking.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil + 1 teaspoon for top
- 1.5 teaspoon yeast
- 1.5 cups warm water
- 1/2 tablespoon sugar
- 3.5 cups of flour
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 large or 2 medium sized Hungarian hot wax peppers (jalapeños or poblano peppers)
Instructions
- In a medium sized bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and sugar. Mix thoroughly, and allow it to sit until for 5 minutes until it has bubbled / appears foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and avocado oil (olive oil works too).
- Slice and dice hot peppers into small pieces. Add the pepper to the dough. You can also add 1/4 cups of the shredded cheese if you wish.
- Using a danish whisk, mix the dough until all the ingredients are well combined. Do NOT kneed the dough until smooth.
- Allow dough to rise in a warm location for an hour.
- Add additional oil to your finger tips, remove the dough, and press until it flattens to the size of an 8 inch cast iron skillet.
- Allow dough to rise an additional hour, or until it reaches the top.
- Sprinkle the top of the focaccia bread with avocado oil (1 teaspoon), the remaining 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Gently press your fingers into the dough, pressing in the topped ingredients.
- Bake the bread at 425 degrees F for 25 minutes.
Homemade Sandwich Bread
Create a delicious golden homemade sandwich bread loaf that is soft and fluffy, and perfect to have on hand. My go-to bread recipe is perfect for bread makers at all skill levels, and creates a bread that is soft yet won't tear when is spread upon.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup water (112g)
- 2 teaspoons yeast (10g)
- 1 teaspoon sugar (5g)
- 1 egg + 1 egg white (store yolk in fridge for egg wash: 1 egg yolk + 1 tsp water)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (31g)
- 1/4 cup oil (53g)
- 2 cups flour (365g)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (6g)
Instructions
- In a medium sized mixing bowl or measuring cup, combine water, yeast, and sugar. Whisk until thoroughly dissolved. Let sit for 5 minutes or until the yeast mixture appears "foamy".
- Whisk egg, egg white, sugar, oil, and salt to a mixing bowl. Whisk until egg and other ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Using a dough hook or your hands, gently knead in flour. Knead until completely smooth (15 minutes).
- Knead dough into a ball, place back into mixing bowl, and allow dough to rise for 1-2 hours (or until it has doubled in size). Place your dough in a warm area of your house and cover the top with a towel.
- Once dough has completed its bulk rise (first rise), remove the dough from the sides and shape it into a rounded rectangle (roughly the shape of the bread pan).
- Place dough into a greased (butter or oil) bread loaf pan (I use Caraway and cast iron), and allow to rise for an additional hour (until it reaches 3/4 top of the loaf pan).
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Once the bread dough has risen a second time, top lightly with an egg wash (remaining egg yolk + 1 teaspoon water).
- Cover the bread with aluminum foil for 20 minutes.
- Uncover the bread and bake it for 5 minutes without the foil.
- Allow bread to sit for 3-5 minutes before removing it from the pan. Allow the bread loaf to cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting into it. NOTE: If you cut into a bread loaf that is too warm, it will collapse and "squish". Bread needs time to finish setting up.
